| Motivatie recensent | Raised in 2,000-liter-fuders for almost a year, the 2023 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese *** (White Capsule / AP 52) is initially yeasty and flinty yet a bit muted on the slightly smoky and saline nose that is deep, intense and savory but also refined or even delicate. With a little bit of aeration, ripe white and yellow stone fruit aromas start populating the nose to intertwine with flinty notes of broken blue slate and mouthwatering salty notes. Very elegant and refined yet also concentrated on the palate, this wine is dense, rich and powerful, finely tannic and crystalline, with lemon bitters on the finish. This is a promising wine with enormous length and power but also purity and tension. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine from AP 52 24 in January 2026. |
